An excellent look back at last year's highlights. I would only add the superb performance of Pierrot Lunaire by Nikki Enfield and Left Coast Chamber Ensemble. It was a real highlight for me.
While I'm at it, let me add my two cents to the SFS imbroglio. It's a great orchestra that is being betrayed by their own board and their General Manager. I don't understand how budget cuts will ever lead to artistic relevance.
BCCO Thanks you for supporting community music making. John Wilson is the piano soloist in the Beethoven Choral Fantasy. Friday 7:30, Sat and Sun at 3 pm at Hertz Hall on UC Berkeley campus. FREE.
Love your “list” and commentary. I hope to get through 2025 by hearing as much live music as is practically possible and singing as loudly as I can. A great shout out for the almost 60 year old Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra. The chorus I’m told is in fine voice, soprano Ellen Leslie’s rendition of the Piè Jesu is sublime and because those pesky students are on vacation, campus area parking is relatively ample — good reasons for us all to be in Herz Hall this weekend! BTW the pianist is John Wilson (SF Symphony)
I was at the October 27 performance of Tristan and Isolde, and it wasn't a highlight for me. I thought that Simon O'Neill sounded like he had a cold - a mild one which he could overcome at times.
