I attended the duo recital at Carnegie with Ólafsson and Wang. The evening had a 'special event' vibe (packed house, selfies in front of the two-piano setup). They balanced each other beautifully in terms of temperament, and I particularly enjoyed the works by Berio, Nancarrow, Pärt, and Adams. I regret I missed Ólafsson's Goldberg performance last year and after reading your review, it looks like I'll have to purchase the album!
I am guessing you know the PDQ Bach "half act opera" called "The Stoned Guest", but your Don Giovanni discussion brought it delightfully back to mind for me: Don Ottavio's usual haplessness is so much of what makes that parody work-- the "Don Octave" aria "Look at me" is high on my list of the funniest things Schickele z"l ever wrote.
Your reviews are my islands of sanity.
BTW I loved The Pigeon Keeper and hope you did, too.
